Some amazing jazz bands will perform this year at the ChapelJazz Festival in Morpeth. Find out who our headline acts will be and when they will be playing.
THE BANDS
HUNTER SCHOOL OF PERFORMING ARTS STAGE BAND
The HSPA Stage Band is an ensemble featuring students from Year 8 through to Year 12 and introduces students to the life of the professional musician. The band performs regularly at festivals and events in the Hunter Valley and beyond.
HUNTER VALLEY GRAMMAR SCHOOL SWING AND STAGE BANDS
The bands from HVGS are outstanding ensembles from the school’s finest instrumentalists and singers under the leadership of Steve Gidney.
NEWCASTLE GRAMMAR SCHOOL – BRASS RAZOO
Brass Razoo are seasoned performers at the Newcastle Jazz Festival and other events. They have been long time performers at ChapelJazz
SWINGMANIA JAZZ TRIO
Swingmania will be entertaining you with their own unique, spontaneous style of Blues, Ragtime, New Orleans Jazz, Latin Jazz and Swing from the era between the wars. They will feature at the Friday night Dinner Dance.
FRENCHMAN STREET NEW ORLEANS STRING BAND
Led by Jack McLaughlin the group respect the New Orleans Tradition and will be playing for the combined Ecumenical Church Service at the Uniting Church on Sunday morning and at Campbells Store afterwards.
BOB HENDERSON TRIO
Bob Henderson is one of Australia’s great trumpet players and brings his trio to Morpeth for the first time. He will be performing at the River Royal Hotel on Saturday between 1.00 pm and 4.00 pm.
LE TOOT ENSEMBLE
Under the leadership of trumpeter Jim Lyons, Le Toot Ensemble has been a fixture of ChapelJazz since its inception and will be the feature band following the Ecumenical Service.
MARYVILLE JAZZ TRIO
Peter Buckland and his trio will be performing at the Alpaca Barn, (155 Swan Street) between 10.00 am and 2.00 pm on Saturday and Sunday.
FLYING HI
Led by bass player Chris Dawson and his wife Anne, this exciting trio first played at ChapelJazz in 2018 and we welcome them back in 2020. They will be performing at Campbell’s Store between 1.00 pm and 4.00 pm on Saturday on Sunday.
ERIC GIBBONS AND THE NEW ORLEANS QUARTET
Eric and his group have played every year at ChapelJazz and will perform at Campbells Store new stage between 1.00 pm and 4.00 pm on Saturday.
SMOKIN’ CHOPS
Smokin’ Chops is a six piece band playing classic swing era tunes from the American Songbook as well as Latin-American favourites at the Commercial Hotel 7.30 pm to 10.30 pm Saturday
HUNTER HANDBELL RINGERS
Come and hear this traditional musical art form from a local group that has competed nationally. They will be performing at St James Anglican Hall on Saturday from 3.30 pm to 4.30 pm.
